The bore guides are designed for multiple uses,

1 - it allows to secure the breech
2 - it keeps the bore safe from scratching during cleaning and protects the edge
3 - it allows to align the cleaning rod with the center of the bore of the rifle.

This ensures that no damage can be caused during cleaning with the cleaning rod or to the breech face by a gag or brush.
